'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith continues battle with City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he remembers the thrilling closing stages of Swansea's epic comeback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. The encounter wrapped up with Galbraith temporarily wearing a supporter's spectacles amid the pitch-side pile-on.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a speculative shot from outside the box, and the defender immediately slammed home the deflection before sprinting toward the home end to revel in the moment, with fans mobbing the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

This capped an unbelievable comeback given the team had found themselves down 2-0 midway through the second half. During the celebrations, there was some collateral damage. Galbraith explained, "There was a supporter trying to get our attention and we were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're individuals, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The result earned a fourth-round game at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a club Galbraith ran close at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. The athletic midfielder had arguably the best view when his former team took the lead in remarkable manner, with a teammate's first-time shot from about way out going in via the crossbar and the City goalkeeper. It seems unfair that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've given it to him for taking the effort on from that distance," stated Galbraith, who started in midfield before switching to right defensive wing after Orient changed tactics. That meant competing with City's winger, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the attacker was among the opposition who paid tribute to the way the underdogs approached the match.

Guardiola's System

"Fitness-wise they are outstanding but even the simple things and simple things, they can just execute repeatedly," the midfielder notes. "It seems as if they complete every delivery and they are adept at manage and slow down a game. You can feel you're doing well and then abruptly they will just fizz a pass past your midfield without you even noticing. You have to be switched on at all times of the game. It takes a resilient mindset and concentration just to stay in the game."

Swansea Move

The Welsh side sought to acquire Galbraith in January and secured his signature to bring him in in the summer in a significant move. He established himself as a popular figure across two seasons at Orient and has quickly done the same in his new home. At Orient he joined forces once more with Richie Wellens, who previously gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in professional games on loan at a League One side from United. Then came a spell at lower division Salford City, before he permanently left Old Trafford.

Development Path

"I was perhaps a bit naive going into men's football. I think a lot of players would say development squad matches is entirely separate. Sometimes it feels like play is circulated without much intensity. There are limited tackles or duels. Once you start playing professional matches you have to learn quickly."

Country Call-ups

He has shown that development for club and country, performing well for his national side, who remain in contention for the World Cup next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has started the past five games, including two matches encounters against a football powerhouse. The ex-coach, Galbraith's former international manager, gave him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he controls possession and his knack for a killer pass.

Humble Beginnings

This marks a remarkable path for the kid from the Queens Park estate in his hometown, just outside the capital, who grew up watching his parent, his father, also a midfielder, play for a local club.

Red Devils Debut

Galbraith's only game for United came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a Europa League trip to the Kazakh capital, where they competed on an artificial pitch and the arena covering was closed owing to conditions of freezing cold. "This represented a lengthy journey and it was chilly," he says, smiling. "The preceding week, the academy prospects practiced as a group, so that aided our adjustment. Just to join the main group and make an appearance at the end was amazing."

Leaving United

How hard was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he joined from Linfield aged 16? "The decision proved quite easy, because I got to the stage where I understood I wouldn't break through at the senior squad. I'm extremely thankful for the time I spent there but it got to the point where I believed I required a fresh start, move to a lower level and play first-team games. Now I'm slowly progressing again."

New Environment

It is mid-afternoon at the club's training ground but Galbraith has somewhere to be at the early evening: a learner's exam, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Until recently to the local area, the mid-twenties player was a constant rider in Swansea's nicknamed player transport, a team vehicle driven by academy staff, Pete and Howard, which ferries players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"It's myself the Portuguese player, Ronald, the midfielder – a former passenger used to be in it but has started driving. It's enjoyable to spend time with the guys but I'm hoping to be the following person to stop using the bus and behind the wheel. The Portuguese player likes to pull a few pranks; he's constantly causing mischief."

Supporter Connections

When he represented Leyton Orient, Galbraith would mix with supporters on the Tube after beginning his trip at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
